From humble beginnings in 1987 as a promotion for a rural art gallery in Nelson, New Zealand, the Montana WOW Awards have developed into a real icon of New Zealand creativity. The meticulously restored "living museum" provides an essential background for the enjoyment and understanding of a large part of Mansfield's writing. Her memories and experiences here were recreated in her most famous short stories including "The Aloe", "Prelude" and "A Birthday".
