Welcome to our website created for the families and descendents of Harawe  Barney Snowden (son of John Snowden aka Haki Rewiti and Meri Nathan) and Heeni Maihi (Jane Marsh) of  Ahipara, Northland,New Zealand. Since developing this site we have seen much interest; and as usual when  researching genealogy/whakapapa, a bigger picture has emerged, the lists have grown thus requiring much  more attention to detail. Please be patient as this is a work in progress.

Most of the data other than photographs collected here are available publicly; either online, through  various government archives, journals and diaries or libraries.

So, here is something of the Snowden Maori heritage; starting from the beginning with settler Henry Davis  Snowden and his second wife Erana Raupane Ururoa of Ngapuhi of whom the descendents are numerous. This  whanau whakapapa emphasises the Te Rarawa hapu connection and other whanau links. Please note that  pedigree charts as used here are limited and do not include whangai lines or inter-relationships, however  these can be added manually. This site is stacked with information and stories about these descendents, it  will take you some time to read through. There is much room for improvement, please bare with us as we  collate this information. You will not find any kings or queens, princes and princesses (only my wife),  prime ministers nor presidents. What you will find are people past and present who have left a legacy and  continue to do so, people of the land, hard working ordinary folk, bushmen, gum diggers, farmers,  fishermen and hunters, teachers, ministers, sports players male and female. You might find the odd pirate,  skeleton and ghost, owler, burgler, drunk and rogue, and of course the son of an english convict who  marries a chiefs daughter, where this story all began...yeah seriously.

Always remembering the many servicemen of the armed forces, those who returned and  those who did not, and those who have gone on since; from the early wars right up to  today, it is they who we owe a great debt to. We will remember them.

Be warned that there will still be omissions, errors and other absurbities, but if  you TELL ME I can change it and make it RIGHT .Remember I am not an expert, so if you  are, your advice will be much appreciated :) Feel free to contact me if you have  anything to add.
