Grey, sleek, stealthy and potentially lethal to its prey - the Air Force Museum of New Zealand No.3 Hangar cat. The cat has taken a shine to our Lockheed P-3K2 Orion and is carrying out regular security pawtrols.

NEW BLOG! Eighty years ago Kiwi air crews were fighting hard to defend India in one of the most critical - but sometimes forgotten - battles of World War Two.

Absolutely forgotten, Curtiss Mohawk, Hurricane, Spitfire, P47 etc names like Dave (Blackie) Blackmore, Ian Baines, Terry Marra, Neil (Snow) Wilson, Andy Kronfelt, and many more Kiwis, that fought there, and so often forgotten, I am lucky I got to meet or correspond with them. And get copies of logbooks and photos, just bloody legends
I was aware of the great defensive battles at Kohima and Imphal which were effectively the El Alamein battles of the Brits war against the Japanese. I'd never read anything about the air side of these battles.

NZ4203 says night night everyone!
Our Lockheed P-3K2 Orion has had more than 9,000 visitors over the past four days which is testament to its enduring star power.
A huge thank you to all our visitors for coming along, asking great questions and sharing your enthusiasm for this aircraft.
Thanks also to our air cadets and our volunteer guides for giving up your time to help.
Don't despair if you didn't manage to make it in person - we do have an ongoing exhibition about the aircraft in our Cochrane Gallery.
So what's next for Orion NZ4203?
Our Lockheed Orion has had long-term preservation work completed so it can be safely stored while we work on plans for a new permanent exhibition space large enough to house it.
With a tail height of 10.3m and a wingspan of 30.4m, the Orion is too large for our current exhibition halls. It is also too large for its current hangar.
Our aim is to have it on permanent public display as soon as we can.
How can you help?
The Air Force Museum’s collection is owned and cared for by a not-for-profit trust, and we can’t build our extraordinary aircraft the home it deserves without your help.
Our problem is even bigger than just the Orion – the aircraft will soon be joined by a Lockheed Hercules C-130H – which is even taller and larger to store.
Our vision is to develop a new purpose-built space large enough for both aircraft.
We’re calling it the #extraordinaryaircraft campaign – and we’d appreciate you supporting us in any way you can!
You can help by:
- Donating to us at airforcemuseum.co.nz/make-a-donation
- Supporting us by buying any of our merchandise – the profits will help towards the building fund
- Telling your friends about the aircraft and urging them to get along and visit our special Orion exhibition
- Lobbying your local councillors and MPs on NZ4203’s behalf
- Telling us about corporate partners who you think may be able to help
- Signing up to receive our electronic newsletters
- Following us on Facebook and Instagram for latest news

Allowing people to go in plane would be good, I would pay a donation to do that!
Moneys tight even at the top end these days... I wonder if something similar toBenny's hanger 's pledge me could be an option .... Gather investors little and big and allow everyone there own little plaque or some trubute to those who made it happen :)
Happy to buy merchandise 🫂 and look at some fund raising options
Cool pic would be keen to see inside sometime and smell that familiar smell...
Didn’t make it over the weekend as he was legless but he dressed for the occasion
